Breathing water, especially salt water, is bad, our lungs just do not cope well with it. We live in a low density atmosphere and when we enter a high density environment it leaches the heat energy straight from our bodies. Our eyes also are designed to focus in low density, bright environments. Underwater our tiny pupils cannot dilate far enough, the cells of our retinas fire to no avail and the muscles of our eyes strain to warp the lens so we can see. We are just not designed to survive underwater. For any productive activity, or just to survive, we need life support equipment. Without we struggle in the cold and dark, and if no-one rescues us, then we die. Simple as that. Diving equipment is big business, and every manufacturer wants you to believe their product is the best. They are not always right. At Lizardland, we have distilled our experience into a few lines of praise and insult for the various purchases we have made and regretted over the years. Equipment - goood! is what you should do with that equipment once you have bought it. Lizardland
is Hogarthian and has been since 1993. For the purists there is DIR (Doing
It Right), the only true faith (according to them) and a good source to
find out more is the WKPP web site. On
a sliding scale, Lizardland Hogarthian is probably 95% DIR -- we would
do more but we don't think 100% commitment to anything is healthy (I can
still remember the Sex Pistols -- anarchy in the UK!).
